WHAT YOU DO:
 
1. Buy some chocolate or biscuit trays that are made of a starch-based plastic* (what you do with the contents is up to you!). 

2. Add water

 
3. Watch the plastic disappear

WHAT HAPPENED?
It looks like plastic, it feels like plastic, but these plastic trays are actually made mostly from cornstarch. Add water and they simply dissolve. Biodegradable plastic is also used to make plastic bags – check out the supermarket to find them. But not all biodegradable plastics dissolve; some can stay in the environment for years. Research shows that reusable bags have the least impact on the environment, so the best solution is to take your own bag.
